Valley Board Vacancies--Appointments

Hello Citizens,

There are three Big Bear Valley board vacancies. Within the jurisdiction of the City of Big Bear Lake, there is one vacancy each on the DWP and Planning Commission. The regional transportation board (MARTA) has a seat opening in August.

The City Council interviews and chooses members of the DWP and Planning Commission. I understand that interviews will take place sometime in July. Contact the City Clerk, Kathy Jefferies (866-5832) for more information and an application for either or both positions. To learn more about each agency, here are links to: The DWP and The Planning Commission. Currently applicants for both of these positions must be residents of Big Bear Lake.

Those interested in serving on the MARTA Board should submit a letter of intent to the Board listing qualifications and reasons for wanting to serve.  Interviews will be conducted during the August board meeting after which the MARTA Board will appoint someone to the position. For more information, call the MARTA administrative secretary, Betty-Ann Merrill at 878-5200. The letter of intent should be addressed to: MARTA, P.O. Box 1501, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. Here's a link to the MARTA website to get more of a sense of what MARTA is about: Marta. Eligible applicants can live anywhere within the Big Bear Valley or even the west mountain from Running Springs through Crestline.

These are particularly challenging times--when government agencies are undergoing fiscal challenges and other issues. Qualities such as specific experience, flexibility, an ability to fairly represent the broad array of constituents, and a beginning understanding of the position are traditionally valued by the interviewers. (It is understood that honesty and integrity are first on the list). In these challenging times, it is my opinion that creativity, vision, and an ability the "think outside the box" are also essential. A spirit of co-operation and ability to partner with other Valley agencies would also be extremely important.

Up to the challenge? Think you'll apply?

What do you think is/are the most important quality/qualities for these appointed positions? Respond on the blog or Take the survey to the right.

Sincerely,
Michael
