Ways out of an $830,080 Budget Deficit for BBLake Fire District

A few weeks ago, I informed you that the the Big Bear Lake Fire District was facing a budget deficit for the fiscal year 2010/11. The Fire Board (aka, City Council) met for its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 12th and decided to schedule a workshop for this Monday, May 17th at 4pm in City Hall. It is open to the public.

The last time the budget was discussed was on April 14th. The majority of the Board/Council seemed resolved to avoid an assessment which would raise fees or taxes for Big Bear Lake citizens. This left only the option of reducing costs, which could mean cutting services and possibly increasing emergency fire and medical response times. Various Fire District personnel strongly cautioned against doing so.
